Privacy

In short: the app creates no account, sends nothing about you or your Mac, and the website does not track you.

What the app reads on your Mac

With Full Disk Access, MacPurifier reads the name, size and date of the files in the folders it scans (caches, logs, your Library, Documents, Desktop and Downloads for large files, and your projects for the command line), and the list of your apps, to show you what takes up space.

To find duplicate files or similar photos, it compares their content, on your Mac.

To find out whether Full Disk Access is granted, it tries to open a few files that macOS protects.

All of this stays on your Mac. Your settings and exclusions are saved locally, on your Mac.

The app’s only network call

When you click the update check button, the app reads the file https://macpurifier.com/updates/latest.json. No identifier, no parameter: the request carries only the standard headers macOS adds to any web request (such as the app language) and the app version number. As with any web page, the website host sees the IP address the request comes from.

There is no automatic check. The app never downloads or installs anything on its own: if a new version exists, it offers to open the download page in your browser.

If you use the update of apps installed with Homebrew, Homebrew contacts its own servers, just as when you run it in Terminal.

The macpurifier command contacts nothing.

No account, no telemetry

Neither the app nor the website creates an account. There is no telemetry, no usage statistics and no crash report sent.

The macpurifier.com website

To serve the pages, the host [FILL: name of the host] keeps technical logs (IP address, browser, page requested, date). [FILL: how long the host keeps these logs.]
