Frequent questions
How do I put a file back?
Open the Trash from the Dock, Control-click the item, then choose Put Back: it returns to where it was. This works until the Trash is emptied.
Does MacPurifier delete anything for good?
The files you remove go to the Trash. Three actions are permanent, because they cannot go through the Trash: emptying the Trash bins, deleting unused Docker objects and deleting downloaded Xcode simulators. Each has its own screen and its own confirmation, and none of them is part of Smart Care.
Can’t I just do this myself with a few commands?
Yes, if you know exactly what you are erasing. MacPurifier first shows you what takes up space, with paths and sizes, then goes through the Trash. And if you prefer the terminal, the macpurifier command is free.
Cleaners break things. Why not this one?
You see every item before it moves, and it goes to the Trash, not into the void. Large files and app leftovers are never ticked for you, and anything that needs administrator rights is left in place.
Is it really free?
Yes. Cleaning, the uninstaller and the command line are free, with no account and no time limit.
Does the app send my data anywhere?
No. No account, no telemetry. The only network call is the update check, when you click the button, and it sends nothing about your Mac. You can check it with an outbound firewall. Details are on the Privacy page.
Another cleaner that will tell me my Mac is in danger?
No. No alerts, no red counters: real sizes and explanations. MacPurifier is not an antivirus and does not promise to make your Mac faster.
Why does the app ask for Full Disk Access?
macOS hides some folders from every app until you allow it. MacPurifier needs them to find caches and uninstall cleanly. On first launch, the app shows you how to grant it. You can also skip and do it later in System Settings; some features stay limited until you do.
Why do some items stay where they are?
Those are files only an administrator can move. MacPurifier flags them and leaves them in place: it never asks for your password.
How do I update MacPurifier?
In the app settings, the update check tells you whether a new version exists and offers to open the Download page. With Homebrew: brew update && brew upgrade --cask macpurifier.
Which Macs does MacPurifier run on?
macOS 13 Ventura or later, on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.
